When winter is crossing over to spring, my skin goes a little haywire. You, too, may be experiencing some dry patches, annoying pesky flakes and, strangely, an oily T-zone. What gives?
The weather is to blame. One day it’s freezing, and the next it’s warm and rainy. Your skin needs some time to adjust to the weather that can’t seem to make up its mind. Here are some tips to scrub away winter’s old skin and let a new face bloom.
1. Exfoliate once a week. No matter what the temperature, you should always exfoliate your face and body once a week with a gentle scrub. This will help get rid of dead skin cells and dry patches, making your skin feel smoother and renewed. Your moisturizer will absorb better into the skin rather that sit on top. Those gams will be skirt-ready in no time!
2. Use a daily cleanser that fights oil and blackheads. In the winter, I tend to use a creamy cleanser to give my skin moisture. Now that the weather is getting a little warmer, switch to a cleanser that will keep oily skin at bay and help get rid of blackheads. Your pores tend to open up more when the temperature rises, making blackheads more visible.
3. Moisturize. My beauty bag has two moisturizers right now. Excessive? For me, very necessary. In cold weather, your skin still needs extra hydration. Lather on a rich moisturizer until your skin feels and looks less dry. Eventually, it will start to normalize and you’ll probably see fewer dry patches and more oil and shine. Once this happens, switch over to a lightweight moisturizer and bump up the SPF. A little bit of vitamin D is good for the skin, but too much will age you.
4. Give your lips some TLC. Get your lips ready for those pretty, bright shades by exfoliating with a warm face cloth and applying a rich lip balm before bed. You don’t want dry, chapped lips to distract from your pretty lip colour!
